Novice females shine on international debut
Four of Touchgloves novice female thaiboxers travelled to Jersey, Channel Islands to compete as part of an all female muaythai event hosted by the amazing Pisces jersey muay thai academy aptly named “Femme Fatales“.
The show was the second of its series and after the standard of the first show last year, the event had sold out prior to the show date.
The first positive about this show apart from the obvious professionalism and etiquette by both promoters and teams is the audience participation cheering every single fighter regardless of being local or a visitor.
Cambornes Leanne Tarbox used some very skilled techniques accompanied by a tactical game plan to outscore her more experienced opponent.
leanne has only been training for 6 months at the gym but took her time to pick shots and only used aggression and strength when required which showed great maturity for future events.
Falmouth based Francesca Sweeney had suffered an accidental elbow cut in our previous show “never back down” held locally, although there was signs of a full healing during the 3 week training period, the cut reopened and retired after round 3 to reduce further damage despite landing some very strong boxing combinations during the bout.
Melanie Evans used a very skilful TKD background to win the first round of her bout but fell foul of some strong and precise leg kicks and was unable to continue.Melanie has taken more from this loss in regard to the differences of the 2 combat sports and is already back in training for her next competition.
Alice Nicholas has always pursued excellence in anything she undertakes.
The Cornish police officer and former miss Cornwall has now thrown herself into muaythai winning her first ever competition in impressive fashion using strong clinch work and boxing throughout the fast paced five rounds claiming her victory to be more important to her than any of her previous conquests.
Touchgloves have been back on great form now winning 9 of their last 12 competitions and urge local businesses to help out with sponsorship after witnessing the support muaythai has received in the Channel Islands.
Touchgloves is and always has has been first and foremost a fitness and personal goal club. It is non-intimidating and has the most electric atmosphere which aids motivation.
Those who have no desire to compete will learn to use techniques properly saving injury but will experience levels of fitness and weight loss beyond compare.
The first session is free and we invite everybody to try out by working at their own pace.
